Episode 78: Let’s Shake Up The Coaching Industry

Game On Girlfriend Episode 78 Title Graphic

Do you remember that fun little thing we used to write to each other when AIM was in? You know, that old-fashioned messenger app?

It’s this one: ZOMG!

LOL

You guys. That is exactly how I felt when I wrapped up this podcast episode with Lee.

In full transparency, I had the hardest time naming this episode. Usually, I write my many (MANY) options for the title and then choose one. With this episode? That was tough.

To give you an idea of what I mean, here are a few of the other titles my team and I thought of:

Coaching’s Roots In The White Patriarchy

Breaking Up The Roots of Coaching

How to Reshape The Coaching Industry

The White Patriarchy In Coaching

So, my amazing Girlfriend, if you’ve ever thought about hiring a coach but then got turned off by the bro-ness of it all, the pressure, the negativity, the ick-factor, then this is an episode you’ll want to tune into.

Coaches are amazing (yes, I realize that’s self-serving, LOL), but not all coaches are built the same, and it’s a completely unregulated industry.

This means we all need to pay attention to how coaches speak to us, how they sell, and whether or not they’ve done the necessary work of pulling themselves out of the white patriarchy that designed the industry.

This is something I’ve really been struggling with. As a coach. I know I can help women earn more money faster, teach from my own mistakes and combine that with the training I’ve received. But to get out there and call myself a “coach”? Well, lately that has not felt like a welcome word to most people.

And this conversation with Lee helped me understand more about why I’ve been feeling that way.

Lee Chaix McDonough is the CEO and Founder of Coach With Clarity, a training and education company for life and business coaches.

She’s the host of the Coach with Clarity podcast. She’s also the author of the #1 Amazon bestselling book, ACT On Your Business: Braving the storms of entrepreneurship and creating success through meaning, mindset, and mindfulness.

You can grab the book by clicking here.

So, after over a decade as a clinical social worker and public health professional, Lee became credentialed as a coach through the International Coach Federation and now provides training and ICF-accredited education for intuitive, heart-centered coaches.

Her Coach with Clarity® framework fuses meaning, mindset, and mindfulness with grounded intuition and solid business strategy to help coaches and clients excel at entrepreneurship and transform their lives.

* Transitioning from one profession (i.e., therapy) to another (i.e., coaching), and the external and internal blocks that arise

* Training and education in the coaching industry – what it should look like, whether certification should be required, etc.

* Bypassing in the coaching industry (and its roots in white patriarchy)

If you’d like to take advantage of her really cool Coach with Clarity Blueprint, you can find that by clicking here.

Oh, and to all to all the fun, you should know that Lee lives in North Carolina with her husband, two sons, and her pug Phineas. I mean, how cute is that name? LOL
