Episode 101: Not Getting Results? It’s Time to Get Unsexy
Don’t you hate it when you set a goal and then nothing happens? It’s the worst feeling.
We all start out with great intentions when we set a new goal or start chasing a new idea.
But then things get off track. Suddenly, the tasks get a little boring. The excitement starts to wear off. And we’re left with something none of us want.
The unsexy tasks.
What are the unsexy tasks?
Unsexy tasks are those that aren’t very exciting to do. They’re the small, day in and day out things that can add up to huge success — or massive failure.
They’re those to-dos that can seem dangerously small or unimportant in the moment.
And not doing the unsexy tasks can absolutely kill your dreams. Like, dead. As in, no longer around, gone … the trash can that collects our ambition, hope, and confidence.
These are the tasks no one else will see. And they happen in the moments when we’re alone, when no one else knows what we said we’d do but now don’t feel like doing.
Here’s a list of some of the usual suspects:
- Writing show notes for your podcast (LOL! See what I did there?)
- Outlining your new book
- Getting up to exercise
- Getting up early
- Drinking more water
- Studying the data in your business (also known as open rates, click-through rates, sales, customer satisfaction)
- Writing your next newsletter
- Choosing the salad over the burger when you said you wanted to get healthy
Each one of these is actually easy do to.
The rub? They’re easy not to do, too. And that’s where all the danger is. We think it doesn’t matter if we skip it today. We don’t feel any pain or heartache immediately, so we let the moment of activity — of opportunity — pass.
In today’s episode, I dive into why this is so dangerous and discuss the one thing we’re all up against that levels the playing field.
Pop in those earphones, and let’s get to it.
