Episode 44: How To Be Great In The Face Of Uncertainty

Game On Girlfriend Ep43 Title Graphic

Let’s talk about the 3 ways you can be great in the face of uncertainty because we all know we’re in for some bumps along the way as we round out the year that just keeps on giving.

It’s election day in the United States! Holy cannoli! Did we ever think we were going to make it through 2020? And here we are, the first Tuesday in November.

Talk about game on….

So listen, you’re going to have a lot of choices in front of you today, and for the rest of the year. In today’s episode I want to walk you through how to be great in the face of all of it:

The good. The bad. And the ugly.

And it’s not just this year, it’s everything in life. We can’t control the weather, we can’t control other people’s behavior, or whether or not our school district will be learning remotely or in-person, or whether or not our supermarket has the apples we want.

It’s annoying. Let’s be honest. We want to be able to predict what will happen next, or even by lunchtime tomorrow.

But life just isn’t like that. We’ve all experienced the reality of that way before 2020 knocked on our door.

Maybe someone you know got a diagnosis that was unexpected, or you got that diagnosis, maybe it was an unexpected end to a relationship, or an accident or a sudden job loss.

The time has come to learn the skill of being great in the face of uncertainty. You’ll use it consistently throughout the rest of your life.

One of the more painful experiences we can have as human beings, is the feeling of regret.

That punch-to-the-gut feeling that hits us when we know we could’ve been better, we could’ve done better or done more.

One way to make sure we don’t experience that is to plan to be great when things don’t go our way. We’re going to be surprised by the natural uncertainty of life, that’s just a fact.

But how we respond to that uncertainty is 100% in our control. However, if we don’t take the time to learn how to react in the moment, then we’re leaving our own happiness, pride and fulfillment to chance.

Worse, we’re leaving it up to our basest human nature. Yikes.

So let’s get practicing.

Today’s episode gives you a solid, 3-step process to get started, and stay motivated as you continue to practice this skill.

Pop in those earphones, and go for a walk as you listen, helping the message sink in.

Then go back to your desk, grab a pen and paper and get your three steps written down, so you can start practicing.

Enjoy.
