Episode 112: Does Everyone Else Matter But You?
This week’s podcast episode is a live coaching session with nurse practitioner, Gina Dicostanzo.
I’m so excited to share a live coaching session with you! While we had some fun back and forth, this is really what it’s like to sit down with a coach and work through tough challenges.
I want to acknowledge Gina and thank her for sharing her roadblocks with us so honestly. It takes an open mind and courage to be coached — and it takes even more courage to be coached when a camera is on!
At the beginning of our session, Gina shares that she grew up in a large family and that while her most basic needs were always met, she realized from a very young age that she was great at taking care of everyone else.
OMG. Can you relate? I know I can. This sounds so much like the high-functioning codependence I’ve been talking about for the last several months.
Gina, like so many of us, received accolades and encouragement for taking care of other people’s needs. It worked for her. It worked so well that she became a nurse, which aligned beautifully with her talent.
She’s loved that career, but now she’s ready for a change. I really pushed her on a few separate areas of life that might work for her, and she was really powerful and honest about what she thinks will work and what won’t.
We wrapped up this session with a challenge for Gina as she heads back out into her daily life.
This episode is part 1of a 3 part series of live coaching sessions that I held in my house. I have to tell you, it was such a joy to invite people into my office and have them sit down with me for a real heart to heart.
I’ll never forget walking out of my office for the last time, terrified of what was next and hoping I could figure it out. It takes a lot of courage to start a new career.
