Episode 182: How to Stand Out in Life and in Business with Nida Leard
Be excellent to stand out
Why is it that we always wait until things aren’t going well to ask ourselves how to be excellent?
Nida Leard is going to remind us the best time to figure out how to be excellent is when things are going well. Nida’s the founder of Nida Leard Consulting and Coaching, where she advises world-class experts to become legendary market outliers. She works with highly exceptional coaches, consultants, and experts who want to build a truly innovative business that stands out from the rest.
Personal development on the daily is no joke. It takes a lot of effort and it takes a lot of focus.
Telling the truth
In her business, Nida shows them that to grow, they have to tell the truth. As a problem solver, Nida says that when she's evaluating things or working out a challenge, she asks the root cause. The same is true when coaching her clients.
There is no cookie-cutter approach because everyone has different resources. She says you have the potential to be amazing. Usually, your natural strengths, personality type, and other things like your upbringing and environment are factors in finding what you should be doing and what makes you feel alive. Eventually, it's all about finding the truth, finding your truth.
Nida challenges her clients’ thinking and asks them questions to reflect on. She says it's not about running away from challenges and problems and what makes you uncomfortable. It’s about really contemplating and realizing there are different paths to reach the same outcome. Comparing yourself to others who are doing the same thing but might be at a different stage in life and business isn’t logical.
It always comes back to what makes people feel happy and fulfilled says Nida. A question to ask is whether or not you have legitimate reasons for what you do and don’t want to do.
Support through self-actualization
Sorting the things that feel incorrect from the unsexy tasks – the work you do when no one is watching – has to come from a conscious place. Nida says your body will react when you're running away from something. It's that fight or flight mode that's registering in your brain. It might not be a real danger – it might be thinking that if you go on camera, someone will criticize you. Or that you might say something wrong.
But you'll feel calm when you can make a conscious decision coming from a place of awareness. You'll be at peace with yourself. And even in deciding to walk away from something, it will come from a place of empowerment because you're not scared and you're not running away. When we make decisions that are actually aligned with who we are- maybe where the business journey is at the moment, where we are as human beings at the moment -- that it is a very calming experience.
Five levels of transformation
Chaos comes from feeling misaligned. I can't explain ... I can't put my finger on it ... Nida says her clients usually don't know how to explain their reaction. She refers to the five levels of transformation being misaligned: self-identity, values and beliefs, skills and capabilities, behaviors, and ecosystem. If one of those levels is misaligned, something will feel wrong. You could have had great behaviors and mindset, but if you're surrounding yourself with the wrong crowd, you won't feel like you're in the right place. It's like a flower being planted in a low-quality environment.
Find your superniche
When people talk about niche – each market is about the group of clients that we want to work with – this is a group of people you want to pursue. When you niche into something specific, consider the small details the client is looking for that differ from the mainstream market. You need to really understand who is your ideal client psychologically. On a deep level, what are their desires, problems, and challenges? And how do we make their lives easier in a way nobody else can?
According to Nida, people will have criteria they need to be more conscious of when hiring people. If you could make a change when you're doing well, you'll have the money, resources, energy, and all that to fix the problem.
What I like to talk about is how you make your service exceptional. How do you customize your services? How do you not use the cookie-cutter approach?
Let’s get to it!
