Episode 19: Want to Start a YouTube Channel? Listen to This First.
Want to start a YouTube Channel? So many people watch YouTube and think, “I wanna do that! I want my own YouTube channel!”
But what does it really take to have your own channel?
Ever wonder what your day-to-day life would look like as a YouTube influencer? What about a handy list of the mistakes most people make when getting started?
Ah…yes please!
Well, in today’s episode, you YouTube lovers are going to get your wish. I sat down with my friend of 20 years, Michele Wang.
You can check out her gorgeous YouTube channel by clicking here.
She’s part of my group of sister-friends. You know, kind of like sister wives, except not. Sister friends, people. Sister friends.
Once a year we get together in a different part of the country to spend time together, eating, laughing, eating, cooking, playing games, eating, catching up.
Oh, and did I mention we eat?
Michele is one of the funniest people I know. And when she stopped by my house about 4 years ago to take me out to lunch for my birthday, she told me she was going to start a YouTube channel.
“A what now?” I said.
“Yeah, I want to review luxury make up. It’s something that’s been interesting to me for a long time, and I think there’s a hole in the made up space for luxury.”
And I’m happy to report, that today Michele is a luxury beauty and lifestyle content creator and influencer.
She’s got a diverse background in tech, training and knitwear design, and she’s really found a home for her passion in YouTube and Instagram.
Her content mainly focuses on new beauty product reviews and demos on YouTube and new luxury beauty releases on Instagram.
She recently surpassed the 100K subscriber milestone on YouTube and at almost 30K followers on Instagram, and now she’s starting to diversify her content and grow into the lifestyle segment with more vlogs and fashion content.
In our conversation, Michele talked about how she learned to give her audience what they wanted, not what she thought they should want – one of my absolute favorite marketing and content creation lessons, I can’t wait for you to get to that part.
We also cover:
What she wishes she’d known when she started
What surprised her as she got going
How she spends her time on a day-to-day basis
How she reviews and responds to her comments (hint: it’s on the daily, and you won’t believe why some people call her inauthentic)
There is one thing you’re going to hear from Michele that I think makes her truly stand out.
She’s seriously fearless.
By the end of this episode, who knows….maybe you’ll feel a little bit fearless, too.

Michele is a really interesting and calming person to listen to and watch. I’ve been following her for a few years – from when she had much less subscribers. I’ve watched her channel grow & her own style evolve in the several years I’ve “known” of her. She’s the sort of person who you really feel like you’d like to sit down with and have a cup of coffee or lunch and just talk with. She talks luxury makeup but is so effortless in her style and unassuming. So the opposite of how you’d imagine someone who might review luxury makeup might be.. very approachable.. easy going.
I love that you’ve been following her for years! It’s been so fun to watch her grow and develop her style, you’re spot on. She’s totally the real deal, and it’s so great that you saw that. I hope you enjoyed listening in.

Hey Louise!
Welcome to the party! So happy you listened in, and it’s never too late to start, right? I say, do it! Especially if you’re an avid watcher of YouTube. To be really successful, that’s definitely a prerequisite, as Michele shares in the episode.
So glad you’re here and looking forward to getting to know you better!
