Episode 239: Follow Your Intuition to 7 Figures with Megan Camille
Content warning: this episode includes references to sex trafficking and abuse.
Megan Camille is a psychic and intuitive business consultant who's built seven- and six-figure businesses from scratch, relying on her intuition and inner guidance.
As a mother with no college education, Megan really understands firsthand the challenges that come with starting a business from the ground up while raising children. She firmly believes that business is 80% energetics and 20% strategy. Her clients have gone on to leave their corporate careers and create successful multiple six figure businesses, add additional streams of income and enjoy their first million dollars.
Business journey guided by intuition
Megan loves her work; it has provided a beautiful, full, luxurious life for her and her family. She has five kids and is happily married. But the need to generate her money came after she was sex trafficked as a teenager and spent four years as a prostitute in Vegas and L.A.
After spending eight years in recovery and healing, her first marriage ended, and Megan needed to support her children. When she tried to apply for jobs, she was unemployable. She had a record of having been trafficked. In the adult industry, the punishment falls onto the women and not necessarily those who are abusing or exploiting them.
Megan says she could be employed at certain places that were entry level, minimum wage. She’d be working and spending 40 or 50 hours away from her children, making just enough to pay for childcare.
“I had to learn how to do it a different way,” says Megan. “I started using, you know, my own intuition. And that has really guided me through my entire life.”
Megan says there's a powerful energy with decision making as opposed to options and choices. Her first step was deciding the one thing she was going to do and make it work.
At the time, she says she was steeped in motherhood, with one toddler and a breastfeeding baby. Megan started an in-home daycare and turned it into a nonprofit private preschool that focused on Montessori and Waldorf education.
What started as an idea to stay at home with her children and generate some money took off. Since then, Megan built four businesses. She says the secret to her success is her intuition.
“And I don't mean this in an airy-fairy kind of way,” says Megan. “This is where the grit comes in. Oftentimes, it's much more difficult to listen to your intuition than it is to listen to your husband, or to listen to your mother, or to listen to the outside world.”
She leaned into intuition even when it was illogical and irresponsible. She says she knew that if she kept repeating her logical ways, she would have a rough future. She needed something beyond logic and what humanness says is a “good idea.”
“I had been giving psychic readings and intuitive readings since I was about 15, and so that was the time I really started turning it around and using it for myself,” says Megan. “It is different to listen to your intuition versus a five-year business plan. They aren't the same actions; they aren't the same steps. They're just they're two different worlds.”
Megan says it was during her teen years that she really learned the difference between the nervous system, human chatter, emotions, desire, and intuition.
“My human desire wanted to be with this person who was dangerous, abusive, hurtful, exploitive. My humanist still wanted that. My emotions still wanted that. My nervous system would go into freak out thinking about not being with him. But my intuition was always “go home, go home, go back to your mom,’” says Megan. “My intuition was always there, but the humanness wanted instant gratification.”
Megan says that experience plays out in business where you want to feel safe – be it seeking approval or thinking you can’t invest in yourself.
Get comfortable with the worst-case scenario
If you’re feeling scared about deviating from the plan or what feels safe and secure, Megan suggests getting comfortable with the worst-case scenario.
Most entrepreneurs and business owners wait for confidence before they take big action. It’s the big action that brings in great results – and confidence comes from those results.
“Your entry point is in courage. Courage is what you need, not confidence. Confidence comes after courage,” says Megan. “So sometimes it's about just doing it.”
Megan suggests developing a process to move through the feeling of being afraid and spinning your wheels. That’s where the worst-case scenario comes in.
“Most people are actually more committed to mediocrity than they are to this big vision. I will actually keep this 40 to 50 hours a week, not spending much time with my family, feeling a little burnt out because at least I know I'm not ‘failing by society’. And worst-case scenario says what does failing actually mean to you?” asks Megan.
Megan experienced this with her second business. She was working 12 to 15 hours a day, making great money, but was miserable. She lost her home and car and that was the turning point for her.
But that worst-case scenario birthed a new business where she can make millions of dollars a year working three-hours a day.
Making 7-figures
Megan didn’t have to trade time for money. Nobody is meant to work 40 or 50 hours a week. That was an institution put into place a long time ago. It isn't our natural rhythm. She knew her rhythm was three to four hours a day, three to four days a week.
She says she learned a lot of people have a hard time imagining themselves making $1 million a year. She now trains how to make $500,000 annually in three hours a day without social media or burnout.
For her, she grew into 7 figures.
“I hit six figures and I hit multiple six figures. And my teams started to grow. I still have a petite team. I have two people that work with me,” says Megan. “And I got better. I got better at my offers. I got better at my delivery. I got better at my client attraction. So it grew over time.”
For Megan there is one strategy for every business, no matter if you are bricks and mortar or you’re in online products or services: Have an audience and sell to them. Strategy is plug in. It's read the directions and take the steps.
“A system or a strategy is empty carcass without the energetic backing. If you don't have inner leadership, if you don't have a mindset that can withstand some difficulty, then you have to start building that capacity.”
